ImpeachPAC's "Lie and Die" Ad

ImpeachPAC ran this ad as an independent expenditure campaign one week before the August primary. Here is the YouTube and here is the text. Our ad was initially censored by Comcast, but thanks to pressure from activists the ad finally ran on Comcast and NECN.

The ad is completely consistent with the excellent accountability memo, in particular:
#1 Iraq must be central in your campaign
#6 Pick a fight, any fight.

ImpeachPAC is basically out of money, but we'd love to see Democratic candidates around the country adapt the ad to their race, by substituting their opponent's Iraq lies for those of Joe Lieberman (and of course changing the credit at the end to the campaign). Our producer will make these changes for a small fee and upload them to YouTube and also produce a hi-res version suitable for a TV ad. Just contact me if you'd like more information.

Gloom and Doom

I appreciate the effort and I am a big supporter of ImpeachPAC. I understand the importance of the issue and the need to shock people out of their shells especially in that region however the Gloom and Doom of the ad is a little much.  We need to provide answers now.

I tend to agree with goplies.

This ad raises some useful questions about what we mean by "accountability."  I think an important part of the meaning is a positive message regarding the benefits of holding Bush and his team accountable, including the fact that its the Dems that will hold them accountable and are able to begin to improve the situation.  This ad seemed to lack that positive aspect.

And while the "lie & die" connection is an important one to make, without the positive side of "accountability" the ad may not have the desired effect of motivating pro-Dem and anti-Bush voters.  If only the negative elements of the message come across, the result could just be apathy.  I don't think Kerry's brief comment at the end was enough of a positive message...a start, but not enough.

That being said, I confess to having no expertise in advertising, and also want to express my support for ImpeachPAC.

It's a little open-ended (none / 0)

Who are you actually running this against?  What markets?

Also, where is the direct call for action?

Wouldn't a hook at the end asking Americans to contact their Reps and Senators to investigate Bush and iniate the impeachment process help?

Unless you're advertising toward sustaining an established idea (and not to offend anyone's senses, but impeaching Bush is far from established in the public conscience) it is important to include a direct "here's what you can do" action in the ad.
